How is the aged finish produced?
During production, the cured concrete pavers are passed through an ageing installation, typically a rotating tumbling drum. Inside, the blocks knock against each other and against the walls of the machine, so the surface wears down naturally and the edges become rounded and, in places, slightly chipped. The result looks as if the stone had been in place for decades — while still meeting the requirements of UNE-EN 1338, the European standard for concrete paving blocks.
